About Ecuador
On Ecuador's Pacific coast, between the ocean, tropical forests and drier coastal land, lies Manabí, one of the important historical regions for growing Nacional cacao. Cacao has been grown here for generations, in a landscape with distinct rainy and dry seasons, where temperature, rainfall and soil create many different micro-terroirs.
Nacional is Ecuador's native cacao population and one of the oldest cultivated groups in the country. What makes it special is not only its genetics but above all its aroma, especially the characteristic floral note that became known on the world market as Arriba.
